THE STORY BEHIND THE CD:

Last August (2008) Grandma Pat and I went out to visit our Grandson Beecher Woods Robbi, son of Corrina Cohen & Marc Robbi, brother of Lucius and Zea Robbi. I had brought along a big yellow book “The Reader’s Digest Children’s Songbook”. Beecher, almost two years old at the time, took a look at me and then took the book in his hands and started to flip through the pages. I would sing a song on the page he held open, and then when he flipped it, I’d go on to the next song trying to keep up with his spinning curiosity.

Our whole wonderful week there on their organic farm (go to website: www.rollingrivernursery.com to find a tree you need), Beecher and I sat at the piana playing and singing the songs in this book. Since then his Grandma Susan, his mother Corrina, Poppa Marc, Uncle Sean, and all the family have sung with him the songs from this book.

One day not long ago, Corrina told Beecher she was going to call Grandpa. He ran for the big yellow book. She put him on the phone and I started to sing the songs to him and she told me he was kissing the phone. When I sang “How Much Is That Doggie In the Window” he came in on the barks right on time. At that moment I decided I had to gift him with a CD of all the songs in the book.

I got together with Bruce Berkey, who is a wonderful musician, engineer, and mensch. He contributed his talents and sweetness with laid-back energy and great generosity, and the knowledge that his 3-year-old Nathaniel, who calls me “Cantor Bob”, would enjoy a copy of this as well. It turned into 4 CDs! Recorded in about 2 and a ½ days in Port Ewen, NY. My wife, Pat, came up with the title. The rest is up to you – join in, sing and dance along, clap, make noises and see if you can find the mistakes.

As I recorded the CDs I felt Little Beecher was in the room as were our other grandchildren, Sloane, 11; Johnna, 2; and Isabella pretty brand new. Maybe your grandchildren were there too! I hope these songs will give them all the warmth, spirit, hope, and love that will be their future.

For it is a work of love and we hope it carry’s through to our great-grand and great-great grands – for these songs are too good to ever be forgotten.

Love, Grandpa Cantor Bob
